Heritage Films

We hope you’ll enjoy watching these short films, produced with the support of Nice and Serious, as part of two separate projects funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund between 2022-24.

Shorter Film

Newham

This film features Ahmed, as he shares his memories of living in Lebanon, before moving to London as a refugee.

Ahmed was a refugee leader at one of Local Welcome’s groups in London, and made valuable contributions to the design of Local Welcome’s cooking and eating ritual as a volunteer. As a talented chef, Ahmed designed and contributed some recipes for our groups to cook and eat together too.

Heartbreakingly, Ahmed passed away in April 2024, and those in the Local Welcome family who knew him miss him greatly. Sharing his knowledge and love of food was one of his many passions, so we hope that you’ll learn something new from watching this film.

Longer film

Midlands/East of England

This film features Antonio (Norwich), Louise (Leicester), Marion (Derby) and Reyhana (Birmingham) as they share their memories of food, and stories about their heritage.
